Welcome to this wonderful list Hans
I think that all together we know all that is worth to know about Chevelles and
Elcaminos.
I am from Norway but live in Italy.

Anyone know how the dome light is wired in a 69? I have one
wire running to the dash. There is no connection in the dash harness for it so
I figured that it must have to get spliced into the wire for the door switch.
That way when the door is open, the dome light would turn on I think.
Hmm.. not off hand, but I can take a look at mine when I get home... it's mostly unmolested, and the interior is out of it so I can trace it easy.

Not that things don't change from year to year, but on a '66 the dome
wiring runs from the light to the LR, down behind the sail panel, into the
trunk and has a connection right into the flat wiring harness that runs
under the carpet to the drivers side firewall.

Bloomingdale,
Someone told me that as well off-list. I started thinking maybe it's for
the courtesy lights. I am going to wait to wire it until I have my engine
harness done. That way I can light it up and see what happens. I am
getting a new extension harness to go from front to back, I'll check it for
Aren't dome lights wired similar to horns?
That is the circuit is hot, but open until completed by going to ground by the door
jam switches?
My 64's console light works but not the dome light.
Have to investigate that some day!

can't speak for 69's but GM was not quick to change a proven design.. The
dome lamp is wired into the ribbon wire under the floor.. it's junction is
behind the rear seat brace drivers side along with the gas tank fuel gage
and the plug from the rear tail lamp harness.
POP out the back seat and
Pete the doom lamp is like you said but it's a two wire deal.. on black on
black with orange stripe.. it grounds through you door jam switches and the
ground detent of your head lamp switch..

I went into the trunk (which was full of tools) and looked up behind the
seat way over to the left and what do you know. A connector holding orange
and white wires running up the side. Good thing to know... now I am just
trying to figure out where that blue wire is going :)
