Because of the short stroke (3") a 283 can really wind up but it's doubtful
you'll ever need its full capacity for a daily driver.
1. What rear gears do you have?
2. What do you know about the bearings and rod bolts used for the rebuild? Or
is this an all-original 283?

For a stock 283 engine, I'd say 3500/4000 tops. Remember, it's a
"limiter" and not a shift indicator.
