Ok, I found the problem.
It seems XIM does not work when xmodmap is loaded and started from
Xsession.d.
Background: I created a custom xmodmap file some time ago, because I
wanted to have some west european chars on my US/Chinese keyboard.
Normally I load my XIM software on startup in Xsession.

I don't think it's the case, the symbol reported not to exist by the
submitt
Upgrade to 4:3.3.0a-1 solved this problem.

When launching kmail I get this:
