FYI, downgrading python-qt4 to 4.4.4-6 and python-sip4 to 4.7.9-2 (testing
versions) somehow "solves" the problem (temporary workaround for those that get
hitten by the bug).

As discused in an upstream bug, the current defaults will not change, and
following the team's decision to keep upstream's policies as far as possible,
this bug will not be able to be fixed.

So I guess it's been broken so long they're not going to fix it. Sounds
a bit odd to me, but it's their choice.
Yes, the screen locking via menu works. Also screensavers can lock
screen after the timeout. I use locking regularly while leaving my
desktop alone.
I'm running an old debian installation which started as a lenny beta2.
