I once tryed to make kinput2 working, and actually did it with some
help, but i can't do it to work again. Then somebody point me to uim
and anthy. The problem is they work only with gtk2 apps. After you
install the libs, open a new gtk2 app, right-click, and from Input
Methods menu choose japanese

I'm no expert on these things, so take my advice with a bit of salt,
I use kinput2 sometimes and I've found some apps just won't take it,
also my own configuration for kinput2 uses a different LC_CTYPE value
anfd somewhere (I don't remeber where) I read that kinput expects to
work with EUC or SJIS
