root.dip: invalid group when installing ppp

When I try to configure ppp I get: Setting up ppp (2.2.0f-19) ... chown: root.dip: invalid group dpkg: error processing ppp (--configure): Should I simply create the group using "addgroup"? What should the group ID be?
