I ran into the same problem renaming a directory to "Ambient 1: Music
for Airports" on a (nautilus mounted?) smb volume. The name is probably
illegal because of the colon. Nautlius changed it to ALL55E~C (?). Then
I renamed it again and it crashed.

I'm sorry I didn't follow up on this one.
Coincidentally I upgraded from gutsy to hardy yesterday and found that
this problem no longer exists, that is, I can normally logon using
xdmcp.
Must have been fixed somewhre along the way.

I ran into the same problem renaming a directory to "Ambient 1: Music
for Airports" on a (nautilus mounted?) smb volume. The name is probably
illegal because of the colon. Nautlius changed it to ALL55E~C (?). Then
I renamed it again and it crashed.

I'm sorry I didn't follow up on this one.
Coincidentally I upgraded from gutsy to hardy yesterday and found that
this problem no longer exists, that is, I can normally logon using
xdmcp.
Must have been fixed somewhre along the way.

When opened in acrobat reader, I see there is actually text in the pdf.
