Also, the nm-connection-editor seems to offer interface-specific
parameters, and it's not obvious to me how one would integrate
machine-specific parameters (such as the ones listed above) into this
dialog.
Thanks,
Mike.

Default Ubuntu Jaunty install does not include System->Admin
I think it's a bit more important than "low" as it directly relates to
security of my laptop, but I'll leave it to team interpretation.
I finally got tired of waiting on a fix and just forced install of the
jaunty packages that work perfectly:

Public bug reported:
Ever since gnome-volume-applet was deemed deprecated, it's replacement
gnome-volume-control has been acting strange. Odd crashes here and there
weren't too bad and to be expected in alpha testing, however, recently,
it has just started segfaulting on startup.
My earlier comments that "Archive Manager" does work on my machine were
incorrect. Sorry.
It's working just fine.

This is installed on my machine (jaunty amd64) but the menu item does
not work.

I can confirm this bug in jaunty amd64. My problem is I don't know what
program or script the "Archive mounter" selection is supposed to run.
Sadly, I am also unable to figure this out.
