ok, that's not a rhythmbox issue then, did you try totem-gstreamer or
totem-xine? it would be interested to look if that's specific to
gstreamer softwares

I was using totem-gstreamer. I just installed totem-xine and gave that a try
and I have skipping in that app too. Interestingly enough, I was watching
the graphs in System Monitor, and every time the music skips, the scrolling
in System Monitor stops, consistently with the music. The

Actually in gtreamer-properties I had ALSA selected. I selected pulseaudio
and the problem exists with that also.

I just tried playing some music in Totem, and it appears that the problem
exists there too.
