For each time dimming stops working i have to set manually /apps/gnome-
power-manager/backlight/idle_dim_time and then it works again. Bios
feature doesn't affect this behavior here.

Dimming and display sleep stop working, on battery power, if brightness
had been manually adjusted before. I tried disabling the appropriate
bios feature and changing some values in gconf-editor for the gnome-
power-manager but dimming's behavior is still confusing in lucid.

Perhaps check the bios for built in option for screen dimming. Disabling
it seemed to give my machine better behavior regarding that.

I forgot to add that the brightness keys do work on the Mini, however
there is no on-screen notification other then the brightness changing.

I have a similar issue on an HP Mini 110. The screen does not dim upon
switching to battery power and vice-versa. The suggestion above
(acpt_backlight=vendor) makes the screen dim when cold booting on
battery power, but still the power manager does not change the
brightness when going from battery
I have fixed this bug! Adding this parameter to boot offers the correct
behavior of screen brightness. It seems to be an upstream issue and not
related to gnome power manager.

I have confirmed this issue is also upstream with Debian Sid. Is there
another way to gather information? This is a regression since it had
worked with Karmic.

[Update] The behavior on a recent update causes the brightness function
keys to stop working. The brightness no longer goes down, however the
indicator applet for the brightness shows up every 10 seconds for each
key press. It shows the bar lowering but the screen does not dim or
brighten.
