Happens on Thinkpad t42 with Ubuntu 12.04.03.
With alsamixer -> 'F6' -> "29 ThinkPad Console Audio Control" I can see
current level of hardware mixer and that hotkeys are working (I can also
hear they really affcets volume level). But there are no on-screen-
notification.
Same with brightness.

Updating with the PPA works for me to but you really need to go sow with the
key compination which makes it kind of a temporary workaround and not a real

The problem here is that "gksudo hp-setup -i" (or "gksudo hp-setup" in
case of Qt4 not installed) does not work. The user has to run "hp-setup

by default, i add Russian language and click in this field to change
keys to Ctrl+Shift, but you don't see changes after this, keys still
Super + Space. But change layout work with Ctrl+Shift, to test it open
