Yes, I had manually edited userContent.css quite a few years ago for a
formatting problem on a much older version of Thunderbird, and never got
round to removing my edits.

userContent.css got in a buggy state unless you manually edited it?
Anyway that's more of an upstream question and can be discussed on their
