The ALE-400 ARQ mode uses a relatively fast transmit / receive turn
around. Excessive PTT hang time will block incoming ACKS from the other
station and results in an endless loop of TX/RX exchanges without any
data passing through.

Overdriving your audio into the rig causes your intended transmitted audio in
the passband to go non-linear and put images out all over the waterfall.

Is this for a FM or SSB transmitter ? If FM then any amp should do. If you
are using a SSB transmitter and feeding it the audio for SSTV then you need an
amp that is linear. I would guess that most of your sstv transmissions are
not too long (say less than 30 seconds) so the duty cycle

An example of too wide will be too much audio (mike gain)drive on an SSB
signal. This results in splatter over other signals which are near. The same
in PSK, but here you can see the splatter as a wide signal.
