Are you sure it fails to go to sleep - or could it be that it does go to
sleep and then immediately wakes?
I have it working fine and sleeping well on Windows 10 and I've used it
like that for years. I have had problems

All I can say is that I have LMS running 24/7 on a wired Windows server
and I have many wired and wireless Windows laptops and desktops running
Squeezelite as a service. None of these clients have any issue going to
sleep.

Reviewing the latest comments, I think I'm starting to get it.
Yes there is constant chatter between LMS and players, even when there
is no music playing. So much in fact that I created a separate network
for my squeezebox devices to shield my other machines from the noise.
Thus if you have

Yes, so did I.
Then I dropped out because I'm not so sure that is what he actually
meant.
Ah ... that would explain why I was very surprised.
I had read the first post in this thread as saying that LMS was running
on RPi (or a Squeezebox (Touch)).

I fear I'm failing to see the point. LMS is a service that needs to be
listening in order for a client to be able to connect to it. If the
system goes to sleep the service won't be able to respond and
consequently will also not cause the system to return to normal
operation.
Of course, should

Are you saying server won't enter sleep mode if there is an active
player? Why would you want otherwise? Stop your players and see what
happens.
If you want your server to sleep regardless of player status, use an app
like TOff:

If you search you can see that loads of people have reported that their
PC won't sleep when LMS is running on a squeezebox or a RPi. No
solutions as far as I can see.
Surely this would be a good problem to fix now -- rising energy costs
etc.
Anyway, if you have a solution, please say.
