I fixed the issue by setting the value of backup-directory-alist as
shown below:
(setq backup-directory-alist '((.~ . ./.emacs.d/)))

I added the following lines to my .emacs file to enable task

Now i am unable to quit Emacs with C-x C-c command. I get the following
