I will instruct my Client to execute another backup. Im making the
assumption then that this is not a Firebird issue but rather just the luck
of the draw when backing up the database?

Such backup error can be indication of HDD or RAM problems.
Check RAM http://www.ib-aid.com/articles/item93
and run checkdsk/another utility to check HDDs.
