doing a surface scan for it! This can take very long, and FORMAT
is not optimized for that. I recommend that you use
FORMAT C: /Q /U
instead, which only writes the files
Booted from the beta9rc5 disk image, trying to format a hard drive using FAT32. fdisk has no problems deleting old linux and NT partitions and creating a new single partition spanning the entire 40 gB drive, but format seems rather broken--it just hangs at zero percent when doing a 'format c: /u'

to try loading network / ... drivers low, loading them into UMB can give

i did a floppy disk based on freedos and mstcp to boot, mount from a
samba and run a clipper program.
samba with kernel oplock disabled.
but it can't lock, it waits for ever.
replacing kernel/command with win95's it works but with freedos
1.0-something it doesn't.
any idea? if i can help yo
