I believe you're correct in that email addresses are not revealed there.
But do be careful if you post to any Google Groups and are expecting that
your email address will not be revealed as that isn't the case.

Woke up, couldn't go back to sleep, so here I am. Just tried again to set
up phone number to receive verification code per the first two steps of
enabling 2-step. Again got the message of having exceed the number of
allowed attempts and to "try again later." I thought this was "later."

particularly with all the problems I've had merely setting up 2-step
