I use Google Maps and Google App Engine in my app http://www.eaglefeed.me
and it's running on localhost without problems. Did not need to change
the key or anything else.

This works for me:
My registrar allows HTTP redirects. I deleted all A records and added
this HTTP 301/302 redirect from eaglefeed.me to http://www.eaglefeed.me
A new A record pointing to my registrar's IP was added automatically.
