I am looking for a fast way to erase (DESTROY) all of the data on a 3390-3
logical drive on a RAMAC 3. Following is a description of what we have
tried. Thanks for any info.
We attempting to erase all of the data on a RAMMAC 3. We have used the
INIT command with the VALIDATE PURGE parameter
As perhaps many others will point out, try FDRERASE from Innovation (I
think I spelled the product name correctly).

Hi Mark,
I have never worked with a RAMAC 3 before, however, a couple of thoughts
come to mind:
If the RAMAC 3 supports either IBM Flashcopy Ver1 ( Volume Level Flashcopy
) or PPRC Ver1,
you could 'setup' some volume(s) with IEBDG as someone else suggested.
Then you could
specify the 'setup' volum

However one of the methods to erase data is to destroy the media.
Destroying disk modules could be quite easy.

I understand that, but in a litigious world, and with SOX, etc., there may
be a directive to purge before destruction.

My only intent was to play devil's advocate on this. Case in point. We had
the last active Honeywell 800 in the Air Force. It used 1" metal reel
tapes with plastic leaders. We started to run low, the call went out and
we got about 10,000 in from another site. We started out to check all
