Server JBoss V 5.0 at localhost was unable to start within 50 seconds. If the
server requires more time, try increasing the timeout in the server editor.
Can you explain how to resolve this issue?

You two are (of course) right. I had set the JBOSS_HOME to a different JBOSS
version.

Never set JBOSS_HOME - the run script will automatically set it if it is not
set.

Please make sure that you do not have the CLASSPATH environment variable set -
that could cause a stray JAR file to be used.

I have the JDK5 variant of the server and use it successfully with JDK5 and
there are many other users who use the same. Could you please post the entire
console logs (not the server.log)

Thanks jaikiran,
I have seen, that there are two versions and downloaded the one without the
jdk-1.6 as part of its name.
Could someone give it a try and tell me if it is not a general problem, but
some stupid mistake I made? If it is not just me it might be help for hundreds
of users..
JBossAS-5 ships with 2 variants. One compiled with JDK5 (which works against
JDK5 and JDK6 runtime) and the other compiled with JDK6 (which works against
JDK6). I guess you downloaded the latter. On the download page, you will find
the JDK5 version too (the filename will not have jdk6 in its
See option#1 mentioned here
http://www.jboss.org/community/wiki/RunJBossAsAServiceOnWindows. In AS-5, the
service.bat is already available in the JBOSS_HOME/bin which you can you to
configure the service.

Hi Mladen,
Thanks for the solution
Replacing
REM Add bin/native to the PATH if present
if exist %JBOSS_HOME%\bin\native set PATH=%JBOSS_HOME%\bin\native;%PATH%
with(As you suggested work well , Hence JBoss is able to start as a service)
REM Add bin/native to the PATH if present
if exist
Why not just fixing your path?
Either remove the trailing slash, or change the order so that it doesn't appear
last (C:\Lang\JProbe 7.0\bin\).
I guess the problem is that the trailing slash followed by '' escapes the
double quote in JAVA_OPTS thus breaking the command line.

You are right,
In our development evoirnment we are working like this way only as you are
suggesting .we are just removing the trailing slash. This is also true it is
affecting JAVA_OPTS. But how is breaking command line i still could't
understand.
Main problem is in our production envoirment
The problem is not in service but rather in run.bat
The reason why it is observed when running as service is because the
service mode uses system PATH environment variable
(which probably ends wit backslash)
The fix is easy. Inside run.bat change:
REM Add bin/native to the PATH if present

Hi,
open the server, and change the timeout. See this screenshot:

Hope this helps

You will have to edit the service.bat file. See here for an example:

The version that you downloaded works for JBoss-4.2.3 GA version too. You can
ignore the JBoss Application Server 5.0 is starting message or you can even
edit to anything of your choice in the service.bat:
set SVCDISP=JBoss Application Server 5.0
| set SVCDESC=JBoss Application Server 5.0.0
Thank you for the answer.
Just another doubt related to that. I've just downloaded the JBoss Native
package contained in the file:
jboss-native-2.0.6-windows-x86-ssl.zip
Looking in the README-service.txt, I see mentions like this:
C:\ cd c:\jboss-5.0.0\bin
| C:\ service.bat install
and
C:\

Hello, jaikiran!
I've just installed JBoss as a service on Windows. It's working ok. But I got a
little scared the first time I restarted the server machine and noticed that
the JBoss service was not initiated. Then I went to Control Panel | Services
and noticed that the JBoss service was

I could solve this problem.
The EJB3Deployer needs the persistence.properties. And if there no
persistence.properties then gives the NullPointerException.
Now I have an other problem:
I use the port-bindings.xml for binding dynamic port numbers. That works fine
except the jndi-port is mulish.
You never said which version of JBoss AS you are using. I will assume 4.2.x.
You need a 5.0 JDK for that version.

Hello,
To run a JBoss Server you require only JRE and no need for JDK.
JDK is needed when go for Development purpose.
For executing already compiled Java applications, can very well use JRE alone.

Hello,
To run JBoss instance on a user specified ip address use run.sh -b
ip-addressORhost. For more information, have a look at
