I've discovered that by switching to the open source Nouveau display
driver the problem disappears, even with the newest Ubuntu 5.13.0-20
kernel.
The problem was related to the "nvidia-driver-470" for my video card: GM107M
[GeForce GTX 950M].
The older 5.11.0-37 Ubunt
Interesting update. I've followed the build instructions for the Ubuntu
kernel: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/BuildYourOwnKernel
By cloning the repo: git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-impish
And building the kernel tagged as: Ubuntu-5.11.0-20.21+21.10.1
Which is *older* than the last _good_

Laptop fans spin at ~50% w/o CPU load with kernel 5.13
To check the theory about the Ubuntu-specific patches, I tried to boot
another Linux distro (Fedora Live 35) in order to see if the problem
would exist: it did not.
The kernel used was: 5.14.10-300.fc35.x86_64.
Which is more recent that the kernel 5.13.0-20, currently used by Ubuntu
21.10. Theref
Given that the problem exist with kernel 5.13.0-19 and newer but not
with kernel 5.11.0-37, I tried to find which the change triggered this
weird behavior using git bisect. I used bisect in the range [v5.11,
v5.13] (official tags) and I've built the standard non-ubuntu kernel(s)
using:

Public bug reported:
After upgrading from Ubuntu 21.04 to Ubuntu 21.10 a few days ago, I
noticed that the fans of my laptop (Lenovo ideapad 700-15ISK) were
spinning all the time at about ~50%, no matter the CPU load.
I forced all my cores to run at 100% with a simple while(1) loop to see
if the f

New observation. Without any update, just after the weekend, even
without restarts - functionality came back and both trackpad and
trackpoint are showing again in xinput listing. Truly strange things,
getting the feeling something goes wrong during the kernel
initialization.

I *think* there is better and more pleasant workaround rather than
rebooting every time this bug affects you.
Try putting your computer into suspension, then wake it up.
In most of the cases Ethernet interface fails to start at all. If it does, then
reloading its driver may help it this point:
I've a similar bug occurring on the following kernel versions:
* 5.0.0-23-generic
* 5.0.0-25-generic
* 5.0.0-27-generic
However, quite a few things are different in my case.
As seen in logs, "Link is Down" is quickly followed up by "Link is Up" message,
but interface fails to serve any packets. A
UPD: The same issue, as described in previous post, reappeared when booting the
older 5.0.0-25-generic kernel.
It seems like data race that can be triggered randomly on certain boots.
Again, removing "r8169" didn't help either, but suddenly, putting my
laptop to suspension, then repeating the mod
After update to kernel 5.0.0-27-generic, it became even worse.
Now Ethernet doesn't work right from the boot, and "modprobe" solution has no
effect.
What's interesting, Ethernet interface seems up (and visible to
NewtworkManager), but doesn't appear to serve packets at all. As far as
packet stati
I can confirm the bug affects kernel version 5.0.0-25-generic (at least, on my
machine).
The issue started happening after update to this version.
It didn't exist on any 4.18.0 version that I previously had.

So i actually found one in /lib/modprobe.d/blacklist-nvidia.conf
Blacklisting it actually solved the bug, but my ubuntu is crashing after that,
but that's another story.

I see only few solutions to this bug:
- Somehow find file which has 'alias nvidia off', because I can't find any
- Debug this kernel module (which is actually a very long process)
