I have the same issue, and switching to the mainline kernel fixed it
(3.19 stable), but unfortunately my laptop overheats when using this
version of the kernel and I've had to revert back to Ubuntu kernel
(3.16.0-30-generic).
Will the issue be fixed in a later revision of the standard Ubuntu 14.10

Oh YES Christopher, I installed the latest upstream kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.19-rc6-vivid/ (last
updated 26-Jan-2015 as of today, 31-Jan-2015), and the suspend/resume is
*fully* working now.

Thank you very much for the detailed instruction on how to fix the
problem. My Acer Aspire AS5536 laptop is now able to suspend/resume,
after having the BIOS update.
Sorry for responding late, updating BIOS is something that I never done
before. Now I'm very happy.

some reason my kernel wasn't being updated since I did a beta install.
It was only when I was about to

Despite what Christopher said, I myself believe that we are experiencing
the very same issue, as myself also have Ubuntu 14.04 installed side by
side on this laptop and that resumes without any problems. To me, the
problem is the new Ubuntu 14.10, not some specific HW.
