a poor set of offerings on cable to drive people away. There is only a
small cable system in the *whole* of New Zealand,
I suspect that Telstra Clear is being cleaned up for sale.
Why do I think this?
o The Aussie Govt wants to sell the part of Telstra Aussie that it still owns
and will want some quick runs on the board (balance sheet).
o The new CEO of Telstra Aussie has a history of selling off peripheral

Ultimately, I suspect the majority shareholder, which is the Australian
government.

this is problably the driving force behind these changes so you maybe able to
keep cable but use another ISP as your supplier.
And as telstra has been bemoaning about telecom holding back b/band take up

Good point, although you'll only lose mail if the new owner of your old IP
also runs a mail server. I'm updating no-ip every 5 minutes - you can
screw that down to 1 minute if you wish. I think I may run the update
process on my mail server though - it

Not much, but you might care about it. You can't run a mail server on
dyndns without risking to lose mail or have it delivered to someone else
while your DNS catches up with your new IP. You're

Hm. That's $40 to telescum and $50 to Orcon (assuming I want to use
their calling rates), plus setup costs and modem. Not far short of
Telstra's $102. And Orcon support telecom's "the local loop is just fine
as is".

I've been with Orcon for around a year. I was originally on 256Kb Jetstream

What is "National Traffic" these days anyway?
With all the de-peering going on, who knows what sites will be

Maxnet have free national traffic (upload and download).
It doesn't say so on their website, but I rang and asked.
I have the 1GB 1Mbit deal, and am quite happy with that.
