Turns out my laptop (Mint Gloria) did not have the latex-xft-fonts
installed (which should have been the first thing I checked).
Installing that cured the problem.
Apparently I have a caffeine deficiency. :-(

So I updated the old MikTex from 2.5 to 2.8 and deleted and reinstalled
Lyx 1.6 and referenced the tex.exe file in new MikTex .

I like to use the pdfx package which needs some external files (icc profile,
xmpdata file) in the lyx_tmpbuf folder. The filenames are hardcoded. How can
tell lyx to copy these files to the tmpbuf folder before compiling?
