mysqld_multi startup stop

Trying to run two mysql instances on one server

Dear all, I am trying to run two mysql instances on one server using the mysqld_multi command. Attached is my configuration file. The data directory is at /var/lib/mysql and /var/lib/mysql2. When i try to run mysqld_multi start 2,3 it won't start up and the error i get is that something else is

How do i initialize a new datadir in mysql ?
