It's probably stopping due to an error, but no error message is being
displayed. Make sure you try and echo mysql_error() to the screen to see if
that helps.

arise with this question:
1. If it's connection/disconnect/reconnection that's causing the bottleneck,
why not just connect once, perform your various SELECTs to get your data
