Please try various values for "Window Draw Method" and "Selection" in
User Preferences -> System. Preferred windows draw method is Triple
Buffer, so start with explicitly using that instead of Automatic. And
see if any selection method makes things to work.

When in 3d view I select a vertice, or edge or face, little squares come out on
the objet, displaying
