I found that when using
.. image:: img/foo_01.*
rst2pdf doesn't pick the pdf version when available. It still picks the
png.
Of course using
.. image:: img/foo_01.pdf
fixes the pdf generation but of course breaks the html.

I've removed all :download: references to ID_request.rng from all my
text source files, and removed (renamed) the file itself.
