Thanks, it works now again. It was just down for one day. My friends
could also not login so maybe a local server was down.

We need more information on what service you are trying to use.
Pidgin itself does not have accounts, they exist on the various IM
services that Pidgin acts as a client for.

As has been said, ICQ works perfectly. I have pidgin 2.9 on Ubuntu
Linux 10.04 LTS. Try to:
-- switch off "clientLogin";
-- switch off all encryption;
-- use server "login.icq.com
