Welcome to the club. They're flakey. Happens often with them.

I am not getting multiple minimum SWR points.`
That doesn't mean anything.
If I move the external capacitance in
between the 2 external inductors I can run 500 watts with out an arc over.
The antenna you have is ~99 feet long, although folding it back some unknown

Anyone know what is going on at Idiom Press? I placed 2 orders with them
online, so far after 4 weeks no response at all either email or phone
(voicemail full). My credit card was billed for one order, but that took 10
days to show up, the other has not been billed to my card yet.

I have been listening on 160m this afternoon hoping to catch a local guy
or two.
I have not been on the air for weeks so I am wondering what time we
might be able to hear signals on the band. I am in MI and I have no
idea when the band will begin to open up other than when its dark out.

I have the LK-500ZA. I have used it on 160 in CQWW SSB at VE2DXY/ Zone 2.
There were no issues other than tripping the circuit breaker in our hotel room!
We had the amp wired for 120 V. You should have no problem on a stiff 120 V
line, or better yet, wire it for 240 V.
Good luck. Look for
I have an item in my inventory that looks like some kind of receive only
coupler. Made by BANTEX type RXM75. It has a 50ohm coax pigtail and
on the output side two terminal screws...very heavy duty.
Taking the cover off it is a sealed module so can't see what is inside.

Ive had a ZC since 1986 and its been used pretty hard in contests and DXing
but I keep it around 1200W. The original Eimacs are still putting out full
power.
The only problem spot is on the front wafer where the 160M padder tap is
right next to the ceramic insulator for the switch hardware. It
I have been using a Amp Supply LK500za on 160 for several years now, with no
issues. I did upgrade the PS board with the Harbach board. There are some
cooling mods I would recommend doing. Before I did the cooling mod, I
melted the solder out of one of the pins on the 3-500z. You may need to
Hi, Bruce
Well, the KAZ antenna is named for Neil Kazaross one of the original
designers that optimized the terminated delta loop for MW broadcast
reception. The 10' X 40' K KAZ that I threw together some years ago, worked
wonders for me on 160 on my modest city lot with no room for beverages.
Gr
Charlie,
The so called KAZ is a receiving Delta loop. I ran into the KAZ name when
Broadcast Band SWL's were purchasing transformers from me. This was well
after Earl, K6SE (sk)
had further developed the small Delta loop for optimum on 1.830 MHZ. It has
always been called a Delta loop because
Good luck, Jim!!
BTW I've worked some good stuff all round the world on 160 with a 70 foot
tall Inv L with two elevated radials that ran along my lot lines.
For receiving, the 'KAZ" terminated loop is delta shape and it could be
supported by one line at the apex, and the ends could be tied off
Thank you Charlie,
In that case I may be able to get another raised radial up before the action
begins
later this afternoon.
A receiving antenna is a definite possibility also especially if one could be
rigged to go up and down easily. Good idea.
Thanks again Charlie.

Joe,
I have an LK-500ZC and used it for years in all the big 160 tests with no
issues. The original transformer blew up soon after I got it (used), and
was replaced with a Peter Dahl transformer. I also had a new plate choke
and new QSK board installed at that time. I have hundreds of hours
Hi, Jim
In my experience, the answer is "no" to both questions - although a full
size inverted L , while being a very effective transmit antenna can be a
really noisy receive antenna. Can you go out in the woods and hang a flag,
pennant or KAZ terminated loop for a receive antenna? Helped me a LOT
Nothing heard this morning in NH at 1530Z.
Am in a condo environment where invisibility is a factor.
Antenna is an Inverted L fed through a series capacitor with
two #22 ga. raised radials 136' long ~ 10 feet high running
through the woods which have stayed up 2 days so far.
One question :

Jim--
It sounds like you are just shooting in the dark and hoping for a hit. Are
you measuring anything?
Remind me-- what is your antenna?

Hey, Dongo to my qrz.com for a pic and a "semi-write up' on it.
I've attached a Powerpoint file with the wiring scheme.
