Ok, today I have some time, I am installing Ubuntu Desktop 20.04 in
VirtualBox.
Meanwhile, the only way to keep a session alive (in KDE Neon 20.04) is
by using:
systemd-run --scope --user screen
Will keep posted once I've tested in the Ubuntu installation.

Ubuntu has been telling me for some time that PulsAudio has corrupted
files. I haven't figured out how to reload it yet.

I did that, as said, I do not get anything, just returns to $ and a 0
byte .upload file with the same name appears in /var/crash. I tried
multiple times.
I installed Ubuntu Budgie 21.04 after downloading the image and
verifying checksum, I installed it now on 5 different systems, each one
shows

@eggie, I have the same issue, your approach to address it works as well
for me, thanks for pointing in the good direction ;) However, I found
unacceptable the fact of no mic input if headphones are plugged. As such
I found an alternative, making the headset port always available and the
default,
I've queued the fix in the git packaging repository to be included in
the next upload.
