oh sorry, i meant the quick launch toolbar, not the taskbar. sorry for any
inconveniences.
Does anybody know how to bind the super key to the main menu screen (or the
quick launch toolbar)? Any help will be appreciated!
['s']
Apparently that's what i got
It brings up the quick access toolbar, which is good enough. But how do i
make it so that i only have to press super (without the "s")?
wow, no wonder i had disdain for microsoft... Makes me wanna pressure schools
to use GNU/Linux even more now
Does anybody know how to bind the super key (or the windows key, for those
new to GNU/Linux) to bring up the taskbar like you do in windows 10 and some
common distros like Ubuntu? I see Trisquel does not bring up the taskbar when
the super/windows/etc key is pressed by default. Can anybody he
But still, this is probably the first step for game freedom. Only if there's
a free replacement for Visual Studio, that would be good.
Congratulations on freeing your family to use free software! In school, I
have to use Windoze and macins***. Don't worry, I use GNU/Linux at home too
where i have freedoms like your mother will when she switches to GNU/Linux!
Good Luck!
That's a good sign! Typically GNU/Linux & AMD drivers go together like when
pigs fly! This is better for free software!
That's great! Freedom is Freedom! The FSF would be proud!
I completed it a couple of days ago. Share this with somebody you know.
I would personally prefer a new computer with GNU/linux installed, but these
computers with libreboot are OK if you really care about your freedom (no
Windows through, too proprietary for libreboot)
Hey guys, My family's Windows machine stopped working and i need to back up
some files. But it only gives me this error instead:
Error mounting /dev/sda4 at /media/brendon/2C66B74966B71316: Command-line

If they are non-free, then i probably cant help you. If they are free
software, than reinstall wine, and see what happens. Do they have a native
GNU/Linux version of the program (if it is free-software?)
How do i do that? I have used GNU/Linux for a while now but not how to mount
hard drives!
Nope, i still got the same error message:
ntfs_attr_pread_i: ntfs_pread failed: Input/output error
Failed to read NTFS $Bitmap: Input/output error
NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a
SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows

I tried, but it gave me an 'hardware error instead'.
Here it is:

Yeah, if every computer in stores had the option to have GNU/Linux installed,
it would be fine.
I hope so, because the last thing i want is for them to undermine GNU/Linux.
You can't trust big companies these days.
Yeah, libreboot does not work with Windows, I think it has to do with
software freedom or something to do with that. If you can't let go of windows
(Nasty OS) for good, don't use libreboot.
Installing Debian was a breeze for me! It's your opinion By The Way
I dont see anything on the event tester, but the command line says random

Hey guys,
For christmas, My Parents got me a new Alienware computer and it came bundled
with a xbox 360 controller. I want to use this controller on my other
GNU/linux rig (like the one i am typing on right now). Neverputt And
Neverball were the only libre games i know of that work with the
I would still use GNOME, but make it more modern-looking (Like windows 10 and
mac os), But still make it a 100% libre OS!
This is proof that "Open Source" does not necessarily mean "Free Software"
the doom source license says we can not allow mods for shareware doom. So
using odamex will allow mods for shareware?
Bill Helps those in Africa. But that's a different thing to software freedom
Sorry for budging in, But if i run standard doom/doom II/final doom with
Zandronum, is that libre?
We all know this, but most people will refer GNU/Linux to as "Linux". I even
have to use the term "Linux" when i talk to the i.t guys because they get
annoyed every time i mention "GNU". So i feel your pain there
Hello there. Maybe you should start by reading the community guidelines first
for new time users.
Could not agree more (other than the swearing). Well done, you!
Yes! we should free up hardware! Just like the Free Software Foundation does
with software!
And here's the link to the PreLoader:
http://blog.hansenpartnership.com/linux-foundation-secure-boot-system-released/
I don't know the license of the preloader, But if it is nonfree, there is
nothing we can do about it.
Hi there again! I can't wait for Trisquel 8.
However, there is a new problem. It will prevent the install of Trisquel on
x86 Windows machines. It's called secure boot. And in Windows 10, it's up to
the OEM to decide whenever you can turn off secure boot. I think Trisquel
should overcome the
LXDE, a hint of TWM-Based desktop enviroments, GNOME (for the full trisquel)
and a FLOSS version of Windows explorer for unix-like operating systems
It seems to affect doom the worst. The other 3d games are not affected
Any good graphics cards that will run on a Free OS? like the nvidia cards
with Noveau for example?
I did it through here: http://trisquel.info/en/wiki/update-linux-libre-kernel
And there is still graphical glitches. Can i use the official drivers (if
they are free)?
Here's my cpu and graphics card specs (mine's a low-end intergrated graphics
card from 2008 BTW):
Hi guys.
i have a serious issue with the 3d graphics with trisquel. they seem to have
a graphical glitch. & this happens on all 3d games, even the free software
ones such as Nexuiz. Here's an example with doom (With a free/libre/open
source engine by the way, Not the original propritary one
Hey guys,
I just got a new mouse my mother brought for me. However, it is too fast. I
tried looking at the settings and i can't change the mouse sensitivity. Can
you help me?
P.S: The mouse has a DPI button. How do i get it to work in trisquel?
As you can see, One day, my GRUB 2 F* up and it needs to be repaired.
Unfortuantly, the only way i know how is to install debian on the same hard
drive. Now that my GNU grub is repaired, how do i remove debian without
Screwing up the Grub?
Keep it up Chris! You will help us keep GNU/Linux alive and running. And
defending it from threats like Proprietary software.
Everybody here hates the so-called windows tax. I think the laptop can run
Trisquel, Maybe, Maybe not. Look up how to dual boot GNU/Linux on uefi
machines. See if that works. (Not endorsing windows by the way)
Hey, i kinda did the same. I brought a computer (desktop) for 10$ and
installed trisquel gnu/linux on it. And for 4gb of ram and 1500gb hard drive,
It was a good bargain.
This day reminds me of the 4 essential freedoms that rms told us about
>>I won't help you with Steam
Of course not. What about games with freely available source code, but with
proprietary game files such as Doom? Do they count as free or non-free?
I'm not kiwi. I'm from Australia.
I Will get the specs of my machine and give it to you
>>We don't help people run proprietary games here. If you want a free town
management game, try OpenTTD.
Wait a sec, is skyscrapersim nonfree? i'm sorry if you're right, but i'm
reffering to this game right here:
http://www.skyscrapersim.com/index.shtml
And the description says the source c
Hey, I was at least right about freeciv being a clone of another popular
game.
Freeciv = clone of civilization (video game)
Supertuxkart = clone of MarioKart
xonotic = clone of quake 3?
Maybe you are right. They are not as good as the proprietary games. What
about doom and Quake? they have freely available source code (but not game
data)
I've tried Skyscraper Simulator and the frame rate was abysmal. When i played
it with MS Windows, the frame rate was fine. However, Trisquel is giving me a
hard time. My Computer has 4GB of ram with intergrated graphics card. How
come skyscrapersim is giving me a hard time on GNU/Linux?
Australia
Sorry about that! I thought magic banana was responding to me
They must Love people who use Proprietary software and they must hate
GNU/Linux users and that the FCC and proprietary software/firmware lovers
would pejoratively call us "linux fanboys"
>>This forum is not a place to recommend Chrome and Steam.
I did not recommend chrome or steam. I read the guidelines thoroughly
beforehand. I just asked if Chrome was ok. And for steam, i was just said i
had an account. this was way before i even knew that the Free Software

I'll give it a try, after all, i'm in a place that is 100% free software, i
might as well try it out on the holidays.
I'm a diffrent person now. I like free software. I believe it liberates us
from the evils like Microsoft and Apple. Nobody deserves to be monitored
(spied on). This is why the FSF existed
So what will the FCC lockdown on wireless routers (or whatever they were
trying to lockdown) mean for GNU/Linux users (like you)
>>ok but make sure to get your files off first
I did'nt have anything personal i wanted to keep before reinstalling, But
midi playback does not work for some reason after installing fluidsynth.
>>also how did you install supertux?
Through the add/remove applications app
.Never mind, I'll just reinstall Trisquel and everything i had. Dont worry
about me. I will send you pictures of my computer when i'm done with
everything.
None other than richard stallman himself!
Great! i installed superTuxkart, and the very next day, trisquel gave me the
black screen of death after bootup. In other words, no login screen after
bootup. the linux-libre said that something failed on startup and it was the
Active directory server or something like that. Can you help?!
What command should i use to purge orca from my system?
I cant. It says unable to locate package supertuxkart. what should i do?
>>Recommending or supporting non-free software is against our community
guidelines (it is not "helping" you to make you surrender your freedoms):
I wasn't recommending nonfree software. I was just looking for some good
games for my machine. All i said is that i had a steam account. This was
Can it work in Australia and New Zealand?
Thank you so much. However, it still happens when i type in my password, but
not after. It's still annoying as all hell however.
I know some Nonfree software; Steam, Google Chrome (without chromium), Ms
Windows, Os X, and many more...
One dilemma i have:
I have a steam account.
I want to play some GNU/Linux games that are only available on steam.
What should i do?
Sorry, i did another similar forum post called 'Fluendo player for trisquel"
But i realised i haven't set a forum for it to be in. Let's say you're in the
USA. Watching dvd's on GNU/Linux is illegal there because of the dreaded
DMCA. you have the option of Buying the Fluendo player, which cla
Can i compile a free software version using chromium?
I hope it works, because failing PLT (or any subject) is the last thing i
want to happen.
I need to use the impact font however? Does any of the free font packages
have it?
See, i have a little bit of a dilemma here at school. See, GNU/Linux and
other Free-sw operating systems is not supported at my school at the moment.
I need to use the microsoft fonts in order to get my essay to work on the
teacher's MS Windows machines. i tried installing sudo apt-get instal
Also, I cant seem to turn off the stupid voice synthesis. It happens every
time i switch between windows. How do i turn that stupid voice synthesis off?
How do i do those tasks of installing adblocker for Abrowser and How to
duplicate tabs for me? Any help would be much apperciated!
Using helpful extensions like Adblock and so forth
Hey guys,
I just brought a secondhand computer with my father and i have decided to
install Trisquel GNU/Linux on it. I am very proud of nmy 'new' computer and i
hope you will like it too. when i'm done setting up everything with this
computer i might send you some pics of it. ok?
We know that Microsoft and the FSF dont go together well, Maybe this might
change. Maybe they will be sworn enemies till eternity!
Ah well, i guess i only have 2 options, Keep using chrome or use a
free-software browser that causes me inconvience. Which option? Huh?
Well, so this is about the FCC killing free software and supporting money
giants like Microsoft and Apple, Right?
I see why we are talking about microsoft here. It's because they are
supporting an open-source codec in their latest browser, Right?
Is google chrome and it's derivatives a good browser for Trisquel? Because i
favor it for it's power.
Well, i believe it is a free software hatred by major companies like apple
and eletronic arts, but everone is entitled to an opinion.
& if you try on anything else other than the thinkpads and older macbooks,
you risk BRICKING the pc, right?
tWell, i was talking about the original build engine, wasn't i?
I guess this is why some of us are Free-Software Diehards!
What do you have to think about this?
What about games with Non-Free Content like Doom, But have Free software
engines? Do you play these games? Does RMS and the Trisquel Forums Support
Libre game engines with non-Libre game content?

Aaah, Had something similar with the CMOS battery on a old desktop one day!
How do you Get a UEFI machine to get Libreboot on it, Much less installing
Trisquel on a Restricted boot machine, because they wont give Micro$oft
permission to get a special key to install it on a restricted-boot enabled
machine.
It could be. It May be. Who knows? It could be a troll!
Many game companies like EA and Rockstar HATE Free software so badly, They
dont even release their games for GNU/Linux (for Rockstar, i think this is
true, but i may be wrong). Some companies release their game engines as free
software, Like Id Software's Old ID tech engines and Ken-Silverman
What does this even have to do with Trisquel GNU/Linux?
Not trying to be mean by the way
But debian isn't FSF endorsed... Ah well, Might as well be the only choice.
But Trisquel is based on Ubuntu, not Debian!
