As a guess, I'd say that when you have installed the packages,when it would have asked you to create a root password for MySQL you either just hit enter (thus having no password!) or MySQL is only half configured. As you don't have any data in your MySQL, if you open a terminal and type... sudo

Hi Geoffrey, I'm a fairly simple user of ubuntu and use it mainly for browsing the internet and music playback. I don't see the need for antivirus on ubuntu as there are practically no viruses around that I've heard of. If you only download software from the repositories and don't run any suspect

linux freezes viewing youtube in firefox

sorry i am not including any specifics here as yet but.. when using ubuntu Linux, i got freezes while viewing youtube in firefox. everything totaly locked up. Just wondering has anyone else seen this? is there a way to send a dump, after hard reboot to see what caused it?. this happened to me

I have exetel mobile broadband using Huawei E1762 modem on 9.10. A couple of issues: 1. On a clean boot with the modem plugged in, 9.10 does not recognise the modem. It recognises the storage part of the modem, but not the modem itself. Solution is to remove the modem and plug it in again, but
