Personally, I suspend/resume multiple times a day, so either version of the
driver is going to leave me with largely unusable 3D. I guess it would be more
useful to have the old driver and know that I can at least restart the server
if I want to run google earth or whatever.

In my case, I obtained my monitor from a 2nd hand computer shop "as is",
with no .inf disk available. I suspect a lot of other potential Ubuntu
users will be inheriting hardware such as monitors from the bargain bin
without factory install disks.

I'm running 7.10 beta Gutsy Gibbon and experiencing this problem on my Sony
Vaio VGN-N250e. I can't change brightness through gnome-power-manager or the
brightness applet. I have changed the above mentioned files to /bin/bash from
/bin/sh but to no avail. I can still change the brightness by man
I have the same problem: Dell Inspiron 510m that only can show 640x480
usplash and have misaligned progress bar. Says it cant use 1024x768 nor
800x600 although X.org supports them just fined both when entering
gnome. I as well are using feisty.

this is still occuring in Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 beta, it's especially
problematic for fullscreen games like enemy territory.
I have the nvidia driver and the screensaver looks like it activates even

Detoux's, killing java gave me sound back. I was able to "fix" it by
using the ALSA wrapper for OSS applications (package alsa-oss, command
is aoss) before launching java. I was losing sound even when the java
program I was run
