I don't know the reason for Debian delay for this, but it may be related to the

Just ran into this behavior, and here's what I've learned today, mostly
by trial and error:
The first boot after installation (of lucid alpha 2, w/network) seems
unaffected (possibly because updated packages haven't come into play?)
On subsequent boots, I can reproduce this on laptops with intel
I use only released kernels, and see sporadic mouse freezeups when the
network-manager is doing something. Yesterday, my Jaunty system froze
when accessing the nm menu. I have wireless turned off with a manual
switch, but use network-manger for my usb mobile/modem connection. I

The edac_amd64 module attempts to load on many systems. If the system doesn't
have ECC
memory, or it is disabled in the BIOS, then the module prints
EDAC amd64: WARNING: ECC is NOT currently enabled by the BIOS. Module will
NOT be loaded.

It's syslog that's hogging all the CPU. See the attached screenshot showing the
"top" command.
I checked out the other bugs and decided to upgrade from the linux-rt kernel to
the generic kernel, thinking that might solve my problem.
Sadly, that produced a massive slowdown of the system. I guess
It would fail if the indicator-applet isn't loaded and indicator-
application-service isn't running.

This is most definetly a pulse audio bug. I managed to work arround this
bug and keep pulse audio (and it fully works!). What I did was the
following:
1.) Remove pulseaudio by removing the "pulseaudio"-package and all its
dependencies in Synaptic and reboot.
2.) Download asoundconf utility for ub
To stay true to the spirit of this bug report (codec autodetection), I
filed a new bug after some crazy investigation I did today. Indeed, many
codecs are not properly detected. See
