I am not sure if this is actually the same bug but the symptoms seem to
be consistent; maybe it should be a separate bug report.
I did not have this bug in 12.04 but it showed up after upgrading an existing
system to 12.10. It also manifests itself in the exact same way on a brand-new
system
May be related to bug 978789. Someone on that bug page says it also
happens with PCManFM, so that would mean it's not a Thunar specific bug,
although I have not tested that myself.
I can say that installing file-roller 3.6.1.1-0ubuntu1 from the
proposed repository does not fix this bug.

Having the same problem. I'm using Ubuntu 12.10 with Cinnamon. Using default
cinnamon theme with the following:
Window theme: Adwaita
Cursor theme: DMZ-White
Keybinding theme: Default
Icon theme: ubunto-mono-dark
GTK+ theme: Adwaita

In wicd-daemon.py the main() function backs up and restores
/etc/resolv.conf. To back up it does
shutil.copy2('/etc/resolv.conf', wpath.varlib + 'resolv.conf.orig')
which is like the following shell command.
cp -p /etc/resolv.conf path/resolv.conf.orig
