ok I think I found the problem. I just tried self testing my hard disks and
the secondary hard disk test froze midway so i'm thinking my secondary
harddrive is bad going to have to figure out what to do about that...

GNOME SHELL graphics corruption caused by nouveau driver when using 3D
accellerated graphics
I see something similar. Everything starts well but after about an hour
or so if I open the dash it is unreadable with corrupted graphics. Then
closing windows will sometimes leave images of themselves (some times
upside down), windows corners can get corrupted as can window close
icon.

Clean 13.04 install on Dell Latitude E6400.
No problem in 12.10 (booted from USB stick).
No errors in WinXP.
NTFS USB HDD does not mount in 13.04.
No tests/checks done, dont want to corrupt content.
Guess I'm moving to 12.04LTS.
