After installing ubuntu14.04.1 onto a separate drive in my home built
tower which I already had windows 8.1 pro install on another drive.
Before the installation of ubuntu the windows 8.1 was working properly.
This is not to say or imply that ubuntu is at fault in this proces
14.04.1, 12.04.4, 14.10 and 15.04 (development) all work. You could use
14.04(<.2) or 12.04(<.5) until this is sorted out and then upgrade.
Just don't install the Hardware Enablement Stack for now.
It's not skin off of anyone's nose if you decide to go back to Windows.

After days lost with replacing NVidia drivers and manually editing
xorg.conf file, I finally found this!
Rockwalrus (rockwalrus) solution works!
On CompizConfig Settings Manager, go to "General Options", then "Display
Settings" and do the following:
- Uncheck "Deteck Outputs"
- In the Outputs ar
It's been over two weeks now and no sign of a fix or even a response. So
sorry, I'm going back to Windows again. Everytime I try to get away from

This problem is not fixed, or at least not fully. I am running Xubuntu
14.04 on the 3.13.0-47-generic kernel. I have Nvidia optimus graphics

Yesterday installed Nov 11 Vivid .iso in another partition. Wallpaper
works fine. As of mid December to present, every boot wallpaper screwed
up on Lenovo M58p
Files > Pictures > select jpg > set as wallpaper a couple times get
correct wallpaper display.
Reboot, all screwed up again.
