Snapshots
It started happening when I switched to Gnome. At first I had both Gnome and
Unity next to each other and when I logged in to Unity, I could still change
the backlight normally.
It only doesn't work under Gnome strangely.
I've tested the new kernel, but it had no effect:

Was the fix tested already with a qtbase compilation?
Both it and its pre-requirement https://codereview.qt-
project.org/#/c/157488 are not merged in upstream, so would need to be
merged first. There may be some trouble they are causing since they are
not yet merged.
