Just made an observation: Because I had to take a bunch of screenshots
and wanted to use my big screens, I reset the scaling to 1.0 and
rebooted. As expected, spectacle worked. Then I set the scaling back to
1.25 and re-logged. And spectacle still works! It even survived a
reboot! I would encourage

I tried modifying GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT for adding several options such as
i8042.nopnp=
It does seem like its an issue with the LCD panel and I tried to check
by doing the full screen image thing, but it generally takes 15-20
minutes for my eyes to really start becoming strained and dry.

I rebuilt the snd-usb-audio module with the linked patch and it does
indeed fix the problem for me. The patch addresses bugs that make all
USB audio devices totally unusable, and is a definite regression in
5.10.0-1017.18:
