I did some research. In fact GRUB2 is unable to load under these
conditions:
* booting with BIOS (not UEFI)
* Nvidia graphics adapter
* usage of display port
The failure to boot is only observed with GRUB not when Windows boots
directly.
I guess the graphics adapter is probed at the start of GRU
** Description changed:
I observed a very strange behaviour and have not found a solution so
far:
Legacy BIOS
GRUB2 (2.02-2ubuntu8.13)
Nvidia Quadro K420
ASUS PB27U 4k monitor connected via display port
The monitor allows to select DP1.1 (30Hz@4k) and DP1.2 (60Hz@4k) via
OSD.
Is the boot order in BIOS correct? Needs to boot to the MBR where GRUB is
pointed to.
Please check out Grub Customizer.

I also have the problem with loosing the image editor menu bar when
opening a second time. Problem is seen with 5.5. and appimage 5.6.
Workaround (inconvenient): Go to right border and select extra in order
to access to tools.
Restarting digikam also helps ;)

Hi Robert,
I do not know how to make correct deb files. Here my recipe to install
from source avoiding command line as much as possible and having the
option to revert unwanted changes via synaptic.
Using synaptic (or comparable software) install:
python-gtk2-dev
python-gconf
at
gnome-doc-utils
Sorry for not answering a while - I did not receive the notifications.
I tried it again, from my last configuration I just needed at and
intltool in addition to the ones mentioned by tak21 (message #17).
Good news, it works now.

Tried to install gnome-schedule 2.3.0 from source and ran into many
dependencies problems; gave it up. Is this something for an experienced
user to set this up with the new snappy format?
Used and liked gnome-schedule a lot - sad it is not available any more.

I also observed heavy system usage. I used the indexer to run realtime but this
slowed down the usage of the system too much especially at startup. As a simple
work around I now run the indexer only once an hour.
There should be a possibility that the indexer really runs in the background

What is the best place to run the command on startup?
Greetings,
