It is important that users understand that the installation will do big
(and bad if they are not careful) things to their hard drive.
The current wording isn't bad, but you're right, maybe it can be
improved.
What would you recommend it be changed to?

I share your frustration that not everything can be opened without
additional packages.
As far as I know what can and can't be opened automatically largely
depends on whether or not the compression format is properly licensed
(open source vs proprietary).

I understand your issue but the whole point of having the home folder
encrypted is that recovering it with something like a live CD isn't
exactly easy. Having it any other way would pose a security risk.

Even if there isn't a major update written to run a check for internet
connectivity, at the very least the text could be changed easily to ask
the user to check their connection and/or link to Ubuntu's help section
for internet connection troubleshooting.

This suggestion goes well beyond a papercut, but here goes anyway.
Pass this to the team handling the Migration tool that runs during the
install process.
As it stands the migration tool imports users bookmarks, wallpapers,
files etc from whatever other OS's it detects.
Why not create a script

forward method.

I agree with the poster of this bug. Thanking someone for their
interest after they have installed the OS on their machine is a little
condescending. Displaying that screen under a Live CD environment is
fine as people are mostly still at the evaluation stage and have yet to
commit.
