I updated my kernel to 2.6.38-10, which I had hoped would eliminate the problem, but I just had the same freeze while the fuzzy flakes screensaver was on. Going to Ctrl-Alt-F1 and using the command: $killall gnome-screensaver did not do anything at all. I haven't tried any other fixes yet. I use
