In my case (maybe with others too) using a file for 'starter' is not an option because I use Revelation applet and I start the program and the file from there. And I want to continue to use the applet for it's other useful options like unlocking file only for viewing or searching within applet.

IMHO This is not 2.6.19-7 update specific error. This happens if partitions were changed and /boot/grub/menu.lst edited. For example I had hda1 - Xp, hda5 - extended (hda6-/, hda7-home, hda8-swap). Now I only have hda1-/ ext3 and hda2- swap and every time I update the kernel it returns the old
