For workaround2, yes it is experimental. I have heard from a few people
who have had problems with it, but it hasn't been known to crash hard-
drives or anything major so it's certainly worth a try. I use the Adobe
64bit Flash 10beta on 3 different systems and have for months with no

Their record keeping is terrible. I went to look at packaging this.
Almost none of the files they added have any headers/copyright at all on
them and the few that do are odd and incomplete. Also there's no decent

What version of update-manager are you running, and on what ubuntu
version? I'm on karmic and there is no check box in the terminal window,
that's only in synaptic. Maybe it was like that in jaunty or hardy
though, I cannot recall.

Turns out for me at least, the whole works isn't crashing, just the
empathy frontend (or something). After I opened the programme and it
crashed today, someone sent me an IM about an hour later, my empathy
frontend was then more than kind enough to open and display the message.
So I guess telepathy

Empathy is still default. The libs changed from libempathy-gtk25 to 27
and libempathy27 to 29. For some reason update manager didn't like
making that change much. You can easily do it in synaptic however, just
mark empathy and it *should* pull in the right depends.

I don't know what the problem was but it definitely wasn't firefox. I
tried new profiles, disabled extensions, &c. I then even tried Epiphany
and Konquerer with no luck so it had to be flashplugin. Then I
reinstalled karmic alpha4 from scratch(hadn't done a fresh install since

I'd love to test Michele's theory on my setup, but my wireless works
fine on my home WPA2 router... it's just on Purdue's fancy Cisco WPA
Enterprise routers that I have trouble. (and I don't think they'll let
me reboot those... :-p)

I'm back. I have a guess as to why my "solution" worked for me and not
for mistryous... I hadn't tried to connect to a WPA Enterprise
network... It DOESN"T WORK. Although my wpa2personal now works fine I
am unable to authenticate on my school's WPAenterprise (PEAP - TKIP -
MSCHAPv2). It worked fin
I have no idea what fixed the problem. I justinstalled a fresh copy of
Intrepid RC. Then I ran all of the updates over ethernet. Then I enabled
my wireless restricted drivers. Now wpa2 works fine even with 2.6.27...
So I have no idea why it now works but at least it does for me.

I tried again with the release candidate of Intrepid, and still no WPA2.
It throws away my password and fills the password box with a lot more
characters than were ever in my password to begin with when the re-enter
the password dialog appears. Fixing the password in the box doesn't help
anything.
I have a similar issue. Using the same access point as under Hardy,
Intrepid fails to authenticate to WPA2. I've tried using hidden and non-
hidden ssid. I've also tried from both networkmanager and from wicd.
