I upgraded from a pre-release Ubuntu 8.04
I have a multi OS system Ubuntu/Deepin/Windows.
Grub did not find my windows system so I have to enter bios to load.

I have tried what you suggested. However Grub did not work in the way
you described. I used the suggested commands in grub boot menu to delete
the words you suggested and booted. It went to login at command line and
I couldn't because I did'nt know how get any further.

The peculiar thing is that this was/is happening in Maveric. I was
running Lucid on another partition with no problem. This morning after
installing startup manager the problem started in Lucid. File Manager
started over and over again.

My problem with nvidia is the settings are stuck with main screen on
separate x screen twin veiw etc greyed out. When loading Nvidia-settings
at root I get this:

Happens on using mike on skype. Also on playback there is an annoying
hum
