@Ruben,
How did you solve this? I had x-swat updates installed before I upgraded to
precise. The ppa was turned off during the upgrade, but I have the exact same
problem you describe, and the coincidence is suspicious. I should be running
the default packages, but I still see the problem. Ho

I've found that the problem goes away at various font sizes. For
example, I have the problem at font size 11 (which was my preferred font
size). If I change it to 12 or 9, the problem goes away. I'm using
font size 9 for now (but the text is a little tiny)

Well, I changed this bug to be against unity because this bug is only
present when I have unity enabled. If I just disable unity via ccsm, or
use a different window manager with compiz, this bug doesn't appear.
That seems to imply that the problem is with unity rather than compiz
doesn't it?

Here you can see that when I disable the unity plugin, alpha blur starts
working as expected. In this case, with gaussian blur.
Is this actually a bug in unity?

Here you can see the terminal window is completely invisible, and
various window parts are not being drawn correctly. In the ccsm window
the drop down says mipmap, but it's actually gaussian. If I were to
mouse-over the widget it would turn to guassian.

I just filed this bug against 12.04. Seems related but is much more
serious. When I enable blur, all my windows basically just vanish
(sometimes mousing over them will cause parts to reappear). The common
thing is that this only happens when I have the Unity plugin also
enabled.

FYI, I think this is a regression. I had the same problem in 11.10, but
there was a compiz update at some point that fixed it.

I tried removing the unity plugin, and now the blur plugin works nicely
like it always did, as well as window decoration shadows. It seems like
there is some issue when both the unity plugin and the blur plugin are
loaded in compizconfig.

I have two possible workarounds...
1. In the compiz workarounds plugin, enable "Force full screen redraws (buffer

drain your battery if you have one so I wouldn't recommend it.
