I've also encountered this error - while trying to remotely connect
using XRDP. After remote login, sesman-xvnc started a new session where
Compiz refused to run (- crashed).

If you're still experiencing this bug please clarify what compiz package
version you have. I suspected bug 1065815 would solve this so you either
need Ubuntu 13.04 or compiz 0.9.8.6 in Ubuntu 12.10.
