I can also confirm this bug in Saucy, with Intel Corporation 5
Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 06)
Repeatable behaviour calling skype's echo test.
First call: No sound.
Second call: Distorted noise comes out (and continues to come out until you fix)
Third call: Works, and
This also happens for me on a machine with this audio device:
Audio device: NVIDIA Corporation GF114 HDMI Audio Controller (rev a1)
I get buzzing if I play with the pulse output settings via pavucontrol
when I've got skype open.
Both the partner and skype.com versions behave in the same way for
If I run the application like this:
PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 skype
All is well again.

I've been having this ever since I upgraded to saucy beta 1. It works around
25% of the time, sometimes no sound at all, rarely the distortions, rarely

Experiencing it here with both the version from the partner repo and the
one from skype.com. Every other application works just fine, only Skype
doesn't play a tone, except maybe a loud and ongoing distortion
completely out of the blue.
Intel sound hardware here, too. Maybe hardware related?
Interesting discovery: It somehow works when I launch skype without
SkypeTab, and it fails with SkypeTab; I feel so stupid now :/
OP, do you use SkypeTab, too?

Hi Jono,
I can't reproduce the failure here, using skype from the partner repo.
Did you try that version, and if so, what was the result?
